The Washington Student Cycling League (WSCL) has officially begun. Here are important details and instructions for registration and participation. Please read all information fully and feel free to contact Coach Coree Collins with any questions you may have. The coaches from Key Pen Pirates are very excited to welcome so many new students and families to our community!!
Participation is open to all currently enrolled middle and high school students as well as new and returning adult volunteer coaches. All skills and abilities are welcomed and encouraged.
All students must be registered with the Washington Student Cycling League before attending practice. Additionally, All adult coaches & volunteers -new and returning must also register and be active on our roster prior to participating in any practice. It is important to register sooner than later as it does take the league's background check vendor time to process and approve adults. It is worth mentioning that this league season, both the background check vendor and the league assistant are processing requests during normal business hours and are not processing registration on the weekend.

Click on Register to play/participate. You will registering for the 2020 league year. You must register your student and yourself if volunteering for the Key Pen High School Team. After you do so, you will see a drop down list for grade. You can register as a 6th, 7th & 8th grader there. As we are a combined middle and high school team, it is a bit clunky to register this way. At the end of this email you will find the registration how-to for students and adult volunteer coaches.
You will need the registration codes for students and adults from Coach Coree. If you are new to the team, please contact Coree at email@example.com. This is an important step so that we can keep our coach to student numbers compliant with league insurance requirements and also so that we can track your registration process and help with any delays.

Gloves, Safety glasses, helmet and bike required. Extra hand rakes and hand trimmers requested. Please have your name taped to the equipment so that we can insure it is returned to the correct owner at the end of the day.

Team Volunteer Requirements for Race Day Support:
The League requires our team to provide a minimum of 2 volunteers to support the race day operation. Due to the growth of our student participation, our level 2 & 3 coaches must be available to support our students on the start line. We will have students in all categories and start times with our busiest race start times anticipated to be 11:30 through 3:30 on race day. The race starts are massive and our students will need their coaches. The league emails the volunteer list sign up sheet typically the Thursday the week prior to each race event. Opportunities to volunteer in league rolls are plentiful and fun! Some options include: Course Marshall - at a designated point on the race course to observe safety, respond in emergency and keep the Race Marshall informed as to the progress on the course. This roll will allow you to see all of the racers pass you including your student & may not require a bike to participate depending on post location. Race Sweep: each category released on the course will have a designated adult sweep responsible for following the last student through the end of the race course on race day. Bike & helmet required. Parking: We will likely be hosting the first race of the season at 360 so we will be expected to provide parking assistance on the 4/19 race. This will end before the race day course pre-ride ends so from about 6am - 8am. More details to follow.
Again, Please contact Coree Collins at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions you may have. The Pirates hope to start seeing your faces at our practices soon!!
